What is a Fiddlehead?

Since my last blog, we have been receiving a lot of inquiries about fiddleheads. The most common question being: What is a fiddlehead? Well I have been told that is it delicacy that people put in salads. Mark Ruma once told me that it’s not unlike eating asparagus.Fiddleheads are the small head of a fern. We buy and sell Fiddleheads throughout the fiddlehead season. The fiddlehead season is short and usually starts in April and can end in late May. About 3 years ago, I remember driving through southern Maine and seeing a sign that said “Fiddleheads”. I remember thinking how it was mean that someone would make a sign calling someone a fiddlehead. I have been looking into finding new fiddlehead suppliers along the Connecticut River.
